At the conclusion of the 21st Annual Kaleidoscope of Homes®, hosted by Montserrat West Fort Worth Estates and benefiting Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, the winner of this year’s coveted People’s Choice Award was presented by the Greater Fort Worth Builders Association (GFWBA). The announcement was made by Jay Brown, 2011 GFWBA president, and Barbara Hackett, Kaleidoscope of Homes® vice-chairman, and the award was presented to Glendarroch Homes LLC.

“This is one of the most exciting awards we can bestow upon a builder and their team because it represents the home-buying public’s favorite choice,” Brown stated. “Thousands of visitors touring the show homes had the opportunity to vote for their favorite home, and their choice was Glendarroch Homes’ Maison de la Normandie, a 4,813-square-foot, 4-bedroom, 4.5-bath French-Eclectic-style home priced from $925,000. Our congratulations extend to the members of the show home team, including association member Stacy Furniture & Interior Design, and numerous other companies and individuals who provided building products, materials and resources.

“We wish to express our congratulations to the other custom builders and their teams, as each show home was unique and represented months of intense preparation by hundreds of dedicated companies and individuals,” added Hackett. “We would also like to thank Montserrat for providing a magnificent venue for this year’s event.”

Hermosa Castillo was a collaborative creation of HGC Residential Development, Conk Architecture and CWI Design Group for interior design and furnishings. The 4,132-square-foot, 4-bedroom, 4.5-bath Spanish-Mission-style home is priced from $849,000.

Village Homes presented The Seville, a Spanish-Revival design offering 5,540 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 4 full and 2 half baths, and priced from $899,000. Financing was provided by association member PlainsCapital Bank.

This year’s show also featured a unique, two-story custom builder’s playhouse, constructed and donated by The Braswell Company with inspiration from a drawing by a patient at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. The youngster’s painting, as well as about 50 others, were part of a children’s art exhibit of dream rooms and were sold to help raise funds for the hospital.

A little girl’s carefully detailed drawing of her dream home comes to life before her eyes at the 2011 Kaleidoscope of Homes® luxury home show going on now through September 25 in Montserrat West Fort Worth Estates, and presented by the Greater Fort Worth Builders Association. Best of all is that the design, construction, materials and labor were all donated to help raise funds for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, this year’s beneficiary.

“Working with Scottish Rite as a partner in our big luxury home event gave twice the meaning to our program,” says Shane Golden, chairman of this year’s luxury home tour. “This is Scottish Rite’s 90th birthday, so we wanted to do something very special.”

Golden says builder association officials decided to stage an art event and ask patients at Scottish Rite to draw pictures of their imagined dream homes. Dozens of entries were submitted, applied to canvas and are available for auction during the Kaleidoscope to raise additional funds for the hospital.

A seven-year-old patient named Faith drew the picture that inspired the playhouse built by Christi and Bryan Braswell of The Braswell Company. The two searched submitted pictures and chose an imaginative two-story design with a red door. “We loved Faith’s creativity and color scheme,” says Ms. Braswell. “It’s truly amazing how detail oriented and creative this youngster is.”

“Faith went as far as drawing her layout of the house next to her elevation,” said Mr. Braswell, a man who appreciates good architectural detail. “She thought of every intricate little detail, from a front-porch chair to shutters on the windows! We also loved the name, The Flower House, which inspired us to include several flowers and plants.”

“Most importantly, we thought this playhouse would be great for either a little girl or boy,” says Ms. Braswell. “We wanted to build something that wasn’t gender biased so everyone would want to own the playhouse and support Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.”

The Braswell’s adaptation of Faith’s creatively-detailed exterior will inspire little imaginations to have fun with the inside features. “The Flower House has several areas for fun, including the ground-floor playhouse, upper-level loft area under the cedar-shingled roof, a balcony and a garage,” says Mr. Braswell. “The inviting front door, windows and dormer add charm to this elegant cottage, decorated with flowers!”

This year’s Kaleidoscope features luxury custom homes by Glendarroch Homes LLC, HGC Residential Development, and Village Homes. The three estate residences, each offered for just under $1 million, are varying versions of architectural designs – French Eclectic, Spanish-Mission Revival, and Spanish Revival.

“The 2011 Kaleidoscope is a perfect example of ‘It takes a village’ – a magnificent melding of community cooperation,” said Golden. “The developer – the Siratt family-owned THMC Partners, the staff of the Builders Association, 2011 Kaleidoscope builders, and the architects, designers, vendors and volunteers – worked as a cohesive team to create an impressive entertainment destination.”

HGC Residential Development, well-known leader in Fort Worth’s custom-home-building industry, took top awards at the recently-held VIP Taste of Fort Worth & Awards Party for the 2011 Kaleidoscope of Homes®, hosted by Montserrat West Forth Estates and presented by the Greater Fort Worth Builders Association (GFWBA).

Scott Murray, the Emmy-Award-winning Sports Director and Anchor at NBC5, Dallas/Fort Worth for almost a quarter of a century, and now Chairman/CEO of Murray Media, served as emcee for the award ceremonies. Shane Golden, chairman of this year’s Kaleidoscope, and Vice-Chairman Barbara Hackett welcomed visitors, introduced valued partners, and recognized the builder teams, volunteers and GFWBA staff members.

Golden and Hackett added, “We are especially proud, for this 21^st Kaleidoscope of Homes®, to partner with Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. For the second year, the GFWBA has designated the hospital as the official beneficiary of charity funds raised during the show. Fort Worth builders are very proud of the opportunity to support the hospital as they celebrate 90 years of serving children.”

The awards were then presented by Doug Boyd, chairman of the judging committee. According to Boyd, “The judging was exceptionally close in virtually every category. Each show home represents almost a year of intense preparation by hundreds of dedicated companies and individuals. We wish to thank all of our show home builders, to recognize their contributing Builders Association members, and to provide each of them an Outstanding Feature Award.”

Village Homes: The Seville is a Spanish-Revival design offering 5,540 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 4 full and 2 half baths, and is priced from $899,000. The Outstanding Feature Award was presented to Village Homes for their formal living area.

Glendarroch Homes LLC: For Maison de la Normandie, a 4,813-square-foot, 4-bedroom, 4.5-bath French-Eclectic-style home priced from $925,000. Contributing Builders Association members included Stacy Furniture & Interior Design. The Outstanding Feature Award was presented to Glendarroch Homes LLC for their game room and media room combination.

In 1921, a group of Texas Masons approached Dallas’ first orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. W.B. Carrell, about caring for children with polio regardless of the family’s ability to pay. That meeting grew into a mission and TSRHC was established. Since that time, TSRHC has touched the lives of more than 200,000 children and has become one of the most highly ranked pediatric orthopaedic hospitals in the country, in addition to treating certain related neurological disorders and learning disorders, such as dyslexia.
